Titration is a process that is used to determine the concentration of a solution of acid or base.

When determining the concentration of an acid, a known volume of the acid solution is measured into an erlenmeyer flask. A buret is filled with the standard base solution and is carefully added to the acid until the all the available acid is neutralized.

Usually, an indicator is added to the acid solution such that at the point when the acid is used up, the colour of the indicator dye changes.

After performing the titration, we need to use the volumes of the acid and bases, along with the concentration of the standard base solution to calculate the concentration of the acid.

To determine the concentration of a basic solution, we reverse the above procedure. A known volume of the base solution is measured into an Erlenmeyer flask A buret is filled with the standard acid solution and is carefully added to the base until all the available base is neutralized.

At the point when all the base in the Erlenmeyer flask is used up, the colour of the indicator dye changes.
