Naming compounds

(Redirected from Naming)
Over the decades as chemists synthesize more and more new compounds, it was obvious that a systematic way to name chemical compounds was necessary. What's important in the naming process is that:
- every compound can be uniquely named from its chemical formula and
- each chemical formula has a name specific to that formula.
The rules for this systematic way of naming compound were laid down by is the the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). Today, we follow IUPAC system to name compounds in order to avoid confusion and miscommunication.
Naming inorganic compounds
Inorganic compounds are compounds that do not contain carbon. Follow the specific rules for each of the different types of inorganic compounds.
