Francium, discovered in 1939, is formed in the natural radioactive decay of actinium and in nuclear reactions. All of its isotopes are radioactive with short half-lives. The graph to the right, which identifies francium by its radiation, is from the notebook of the discoverer, Margurerite Perey, who was an assistant to Marie Curie.
