Decomposition reactions

Decomposition reactions include reactions of the general form:

AB Reactionarrow.gif A + B

where a single compound breaks down into two or more simpler substances.

Examples

1. The decomposition of potassium chlorate, KClO3.

2 KClO3 (s) Reactionarrow.gif 2 KCl (s) + 3 O2 (g)

2. The decomposition of water, H2O.
