History of the International ChemEd Conference

The International ChemEd Conferences, which started in Canada in 1973, were designed primarily for teachers of high school chemistry to give them the opportunity to share as many classroom and laboratory ideas as possible. There are also a significant number of lectures, workshops and demonstrations for teachers of chemistry and the sciences at all grade levels, from elementary school through to various college levels. The 16th ChemEd 2001 at York University in Toronto attracted more than 1000 chemistry teachers and their families from every province in Canada, every state in the United States, and at least 50 countries from around the world.

The University of British Columbia has been chosen as the site for the 18th ChemEd Conference in the summer of 2005. The Faculty of Science and the Department of Chemistry at UBC have enthusiastically embraced this endeavour. The campus boasts excellent conference facilities in a world-class setting combined with a stellar academic tradition. ChemEd 2005 promises to be among the best ever, so make plans to join us for this spectacular event.
To quote Larry Flinn of Flinn Scientific, speaking about the 17th ChemEd Conference in Auburn: "If you want to attend a top-notch, knock-your-socks-off chemistry conference, I urge you to consider attending the ChemEd 2003 chemistry teacher conference. ChemEd is chemistry education's premier conference. ChemEd is a five-day conference where the best chemistry educators from North America will gather and exchange ideas. You can expect that over 200 chemistry workshops will be offered; all of them high school chemistry related. If you are looking for chemistry content and want to learn and share ideas with other teachers, ChemEd 2003 is a "must attend" conference."
The ChemEd 2005 organizers are hard at work to make the upcoming meeting in Vancouver even more memorable. See you on the west coast in 2005!
