Polarity of Molecules

Polarity of H2O

It is a well-known scientific fact that:

Water, H2O, is bent-shaped with a bond angle of 104.5o. Water is a polar molecule.

Oxygen is more electronegative than hydrogen. So, each hydrogen-oxygen double (H-O) is polar covalent with a partial negative charge on the oxygen atom.

Water has two polar covalent bonds and it is a polar molecule.

Let's add up all the bond dipole moments (Vector 1 and Vector 2) in the water molecule.

There is a net dipole moment. H2O is a polar molecule.
