Experiment 9 - pH, Acid-Base Indicators, Buffers

Procedure:

Part A - pH of Common Substances

  1. Standardize the pH meter in the acidic range as demonstrated in the lab.
  2. Measure the pH of each of the acidic solutions provided as on the data sheet. Rinse the probe with distilled water after each sample.
  3. Recalibrate the pH meter in the basic range.
  4. Measure the pH of the basic solutions provided as on the data sheet. Rinse the probe with distilled water after each sample.
  5. Recalibrate the pH meter and measure the pH of the other common household substances.
