Experiment 5 - Qualitative Analysis

Apparatus:

  1. Boiling chips
  2. Centrifuge
  3. Hot plate
  4. Three beakers (250 mL or 400 mL)
  5. Distilled water bottle
  6. Glass rod
  7. Dropping pipet
  8. Vial containing unknown solution
  9. Test-tube holders
  10. Blue litmus paper
  11. Small test tubes
  12. Test tube rack

Solutions:

  1. Concentrated ammonium hydroxide, NH4OH
  2. Dilute (6 M) hydrochloric acid, HCl
  3. 0.5 M lead (II) nitrate, Pb(NO3)2
  4. 0.5 M mercury (I) nitrate, Hg2(NO3)2
  5. Dilute nitric acid, HNO3
  6. 0.5 M potassium chromate, K2CrO4
  7. 0.1 M silver nitrate, AgNO3
